Tubby time

Anybody have a great way to get your child to love getting their hair washed? We don't have a problem with the tubby time, but getting our hair washed...putting water over his head...is a struggle and I sometimes have to hold him in the tub...

Any thoughts or wisdom you can share?

There is this big plastic cup that we use for Chadd, the part that you put against their head is soft and then your pour the water on their head. I got it here at our toys r us. Maybe that will help, he has a problem too with getting water in his eyes, Infact his favorite way to take a bath is a Shower with Mommy or Daddy.

I bought the big cup hoping it would work for miss Abigail but she still hates the whole water over the head thing. I just use the washcloth to wet and rinse her hair. Takes a bit more effort but so much better than the bathtime battle.

We have the cup as well, and it didn't seem to help... I posted before about putting a picture on the ceiling and having them look at it and discuss it with them as you wash their hair... My boys are both pretty good (not always). I've also just not made it ever an option and this is what we do, so get used to it (mean mom)...

I just say that this is what we have to do....no messing about. Usually my oldest leans her head back so it is easier to rinse the hair but the youngest still fights it. It will be a battle but you are the parent and know best.

Thanks everyone. I have put up stuff on the walls, hung stuff from the shower curtain rod, and I tried the plastic cup thing - nothing works. I might try the washcloth thing, but still not sure it will work on him...guess I have to be the mean mom...

I have had both our 4 & 2 year olds in swimming lessons where they learn how to be flat as a pancake (lay on their back with support...prepping for floating). singing "I'm a little pancake on my back. I'm a little pancake, thin and flat. I'm a little pancake on my back, flip me over just like that." (sung to the tune of I'm a little teapot.) I get their head wet while they are on their back, then sit them up. They both like that for getting their heads wet and for rinsing. My 4 year old boy is the worst of the two and sometimes fusses. Daddy taught him to blow out as the water streams down his face like he's blowing bubbles with his face in the water. That worked really well. Last night, he got his own hair wet by pouring buckets of water over his head and blowing! Yay! Just some ideas that worked here. Good luck!
