Not sleeping in bed......
My 2 year old is now refusing to sleep in his toddler bed, which is by the way, by the door. He would rather us tuck him in there and then as soon as we close the door, he gets out of bed and curls up in front of his door. We thought at first it was the light under the door from the hallway but that doesn't really matter if the light is on or off. We tried a nightlight in his room but he really doesn't like the nightlight and cries with the light. He likes it dark in his room unlike his older sister. So I guess I am asking if anyone has gone through this and if anyone has advice on some things to do to keep him in his bed. During the night he gets cold because he is out of his covers. So he wakes up crying and we start the whole cycle again. Any suggestions?

We just switched our two year old to a big boy bed. He kicks off his covers throughout the night, even when he stays in bed. I have started making him wear footie pajamas. They are really warm, and it helps to keep him warm when he is out of the covers. Hopefully this helps, and good luck!!!
Yes, our son sleeps with footy warm fleece pajamas but still gets kind of chilly when he is out of bed out of the covers. My husband says he will learn that hey, the bed and the covers are way more comfy and warm. Will see if and when that happens. Thank you Kate.
Do you have to shut his door? I wonder if his door was open if he'd stay put? We leave our boys' door open and Reese only comes out if he really needs something (bathroom, etc.). Carsten might end up being a different story, but he is still in his crib.
Also, if his door was open you could check often and keep putting him back in his bed until he gets used to it and tired of you putting him back.???
The problem is he will keep coming out of his room. He goes to bed before McKenzie and their rooms are right across the hall from each other. We did try a gate but that was just as bad. So we will just have to keep experimenting. I think someday he will go back to his bed.....maybe when he is in high school!:)
How about putting a sleeping bag there by the door for him? You know, if you can't beat...join!
That is a great idea....we actually are going to get him a sleeping bag to practice for this summer. But right now I have a blanket on the floor for him but he doesn't go on that. Plus the doorway is such that there is not a lot of room. When you enter his door, the wall in front from the closet is right there so he only has enough room for the door to open up. It is a weird space but we will try the sleeping bag thing, thanks!
What if you got rid of the bed frame and put the mattress on the floor where you currently have it. Then maybe a reward for staying in his bed all night. Just another thought.
